Came across a nice video on Youtube from user ‘misterlorko’ (thx dude!) of the full marathon set King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard played in Hamburg DE back in May. This is likely the live debut of both Le Risque and The Silver Cord and is a decent indication of what fans might expect from their upcoming US tour this fall.
ORB dropped their latest full-length “Tailem Bend” today. You can support the band directly on Bandcamp, or order a cool vinyl variant from Fuzz Club, Flightless, Levitation, or your local record store.
My take? A different direction from ORB’s past albums, focusing less on heavy riff driven psych with some lighter psych pop. Having spent a decent time listening to The Frowning Clouds which included members of ORB - I feel like this is a great unionizing of the influences for both projects. As much as I might have wished for another album of headbangers, I’m really excited to see such versatility from these guys and I hope to see them continue to tour and release music. My standout track so far is “Karma Comes” - a 3 and a half minute trip through psych pop - all the way from Sgt. Pepper to Itchycoo Park.
Check out the music video that also dropped today, starring Frowning Clouds/Bannanagun member Nick Van Bakel
The track clocks in at 3:34 and is an all around feel-good boogie rock jam with distinctive verses from Joey, Cavs (!!!), Ambrose, and Stu. The video shows the band having fun in a vintage aircraft hangar dressed in green flight suits.
Today King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard announced that their 26th studio album (and first of 2024) “FLIGHT b741” via Instagram will be released August 9 the band’s own label p(doom) records. In addition the album will be available for pre-order July 9 and the first single and music video for the album will drop the same day. No word on style or genre, but the cover art diorama is reminiscent of the Paper Mâché Dream Balloon cover which was a completely acoustic psych-folk record.

Notes from a Quiet Life - new Washed Out album out
“Notes from a Quiet Life”, the latest full-length album from Washed Out is out today! Check it out wherever you get your music, or buy some cool merch. Also be sure to catch Washed Out on their tour (just kicked off)!
The latest single from the upcoming GUM/Ambrose album is out now, with accompanying video.
King Gizz multi-instrumentalist and Murlocs front man Ambrose Kenny-Smith took to his Instagram account to announce the new single and video.
This track means the world to me.
Dad sent me some lyrics a few years ago and I made a demo to go with it but we never got around to finishing it off.
After he passed away last year it felt right to revisit. This song has helped me more than anything to get through this last year.
He would always sign off on his emails and letters with ‘love - Dud x’.
I miss him everyday.
New single ‘You Do’ cruises on a ‘70s psych-pop groove warped under the Pacific sun – snaking through syncopated percussion, funky wah licks and flute. On the track, the band say: “Just like the Murray River of Tailem Bend, a small rural town with a name that made us think of some lost prog act when we passed it on tour, You Do is one of the many sharp turns on the new record. It features our old Frowning Clouds bandmate Nick vanBakel (now of Bananagun) on congas and Ashley Goodall on backing vocals.”
Tailem Bend is due July 12 on Flightless/Fuzz Club/Levitation.

The Murlocs Live at Teragram Ballroom
The Murlocs first live album “Live at the Teragram Ballroom” is out on streaming now with preorders open for vinyl at p(doom)/bandcamp/etc.
Be sure to check out the live video on YouTube as well which can’t be embedded here for some reason! My only question - are The Murlocs too good?
I have no idea what the name means. ChatGPT thinks it’s talking about the 80cc class fo the Southern Off-Road Championship Series. Maybe. I’m glad to see no obvious identifiers for the album or it’s contents. Who among us hasn’t helplessly crawled through the massive Osees section at the record store?
I love these festival vids. I can’t believe we can watch them for free. Huge shoutout to Lowlands and the entire Netherlands in general.

The boys were surely rocking that night.
Album highlight - Mildlife "Chorus"
I’d like to take a moment to bring to your attention the latest offering from Melbourne psych-jazz combo Mildlife: “Chorus”. Released March 1 of this year, it features 7 songs of pure synthed-out space jazz. With a running time of 45 mintues, it’s not hard to make it through which is a good thing, because you’ll keep coming back (and back and back). I had the chance to see Mildlife perform at Desert Daze 2022 and I can’t wait to see them again some day!
We want to share with you that this year is the label’s 10-year anniversary! 🎂 What started as packing tapes in our flat in Tokyo is now a label based in Rotterdam with 33 releases and more to come.
🌈Our very first release was “Guruguru Brain Wash”, a digital-only compilation showcasing underground Japanese artists. 2 hours 38 minutes compilation, total brainwash 🌀
Here comes the “Guruguru Brain Wash 2” compilation to celebrate all that! 🌀🌀
This time around we want to update current sounds from across Asia including Taiwan, India, China, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia. It was a lot of fun to dig around and find new artists.
Preorders are limited to 500 limited edition copies and begin today over, shipping in “late July”.
Give the album a spin on bandcamp:

ORB Tailem Bend Oz tour cancelled
Aussie sludge-psychers ORB announced via Instagram today that drummer Jamie Haprer has broken their hip and the upcoming Australian tour scheulded for July has been cancelled. Jamie will recover and the tour will be rescheduled.
I’ll be sure to let them know I’m available to fill in.
Cavs drum isolation tracks posted on YouTube
Cavs put up some live isolation tracks for Motor Spirit (Prague) and Flamethrower (Edinburgh) from their current European tour. Check it out and see if you can catch them on tour!
If you don’t already know about ORB today is your lucky day.
First album in 6 years! I honestly thought they had broken up.
“Tailem Bend” is a rural town in South Australia. As of the 2021 census, the town had a population of 1,705. Perhaps members of the band lived there? Either way, it’s the name of the new record! Eight sludged-out bangers.
Today King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard announced on Instagram their new record label “p(doom) records”.
Beginning with “K.G.” in 2020, the band has self-released all albums on their own “KGLW” record label, with the exception of 2021’s “L.W.”, released on former band label Flightless Records. In addition, the band has distributed their records through their merch website Gizzverse.com. The post indicates p(doom) is the result of KGLW and Gizzverse merging. However, Gizzverse only carried merch for King Gizz and closely assosciated acts such as The Murlocs (Ambrose, Cookie) and Bullant (Joey) and the announcement indicates further releases will follow, starting with the debut LP of Jay Wilson (Gum, Pond, Tame Impala) and Ambrose dubbed Gum/Ambrose titled Ill Times (releasing July 19, 2024).
As of now all Gizzverse domains redirect to p(doom).
According to a Fast Company article from December 2023, “P(doom)” is a “term that began as a half-serious inside joke on tech message boards to describe the odds that AI destroys humankind”. The scale is from 0-100 and it indiciates how likely a person believe an artificial intelligence apocalypse is (a p(doom) of 100 would indicate you believe an AI apocalypse is certain).
